Heavy Sierra snow on Wednesday

The Palisades Tahoe ski resort in Northern California was hit by a deadly avalanche, resulting in one fatality and another person injured. The victim was identified as 66-year-old Kenneth Kidd, a resident of Point Reyes and the Tahoe Truckee area. The avalanche occurred on the first day of the season for that ski run and forced the ski resort to shut down operations. The ski resort had been conducting avalanche control assessments since Sunday, deeming the area safe. The resort is expected to reopen, but conditions may change due to the winter storm.
