The Sykhiv District Court of Lviv sentenced a former State Border Guard Service employee to a two-year prison term for promising to “get” an acquaintance into the Armed Forces for a fee of $700. The accused was detained red-handed on February 8, 2022, when he received the second payment of $550. Despite pleading for leniency, the court found him guilty under Article 369-2 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code (abuse of authority). A related case in the Belgorod-Dniester court near Odesa recently exposed a large-scale scheme involving judges making over 1,000 decisions in favor of conscripts for bribes.
