Galveston Lone Star Rally: 6 Injured in Shooting Near The Strand

Man Arrested for Shooting at Lone Star Rally

A 20-year-old Hitchcock man, Peddis Ray, was arrested in relation to a shooting at the Lone Star Rally in Galveston, Texas. Ray has been charged with six counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after several people were shot on Saturday, as per Galveston Police.

Ray, who police claim is a gang member, was found in possession of a firearm when taken into custody. This brings a lead to the investigators that he was targeting rival gang members.

The incident took place shortly before 11 p.m. in the 2100 block of The Strand, a historic part of the district. On arrival, the police found six people with gunshot wounds, five of whom were transported to the hospital.

According to Joe Flores, a local business owner, the scene was chaotic with people running and police pushing them back. Similarly, a rally attendee named Paul recounts his fear during the evacuation, not knowing where the shooting was coming from.

Chief Doug Balli stated that this type of violence had never occurred at the Lone Star Rally before and believes it was an isolated incident. A section of The Strand remained closed for hours during the investigation.

The aftermath left motorcyclists unable to retrieve their bikes until after 4 a.m. on Sunday. The Lone Star Rally, known as the largest four-day motorcycle rally in North America, attracts hundreds of thousands of people annually.
