Former Capitol Police officer outspoken about Jan. 6 launches run for Congress
Former Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn, who faced a violent mob during the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack, is running for Congress in Maryland’s 3rd Congressional District. He joins a crowded Democratic primary to replace retiring Democratic Rep. John Sarbanes. Dunn, a 15-year veteran of the U.S. Capitol Police force, has been outspoken about his experiences during the Capitol riot and has been involved in multiple congressional hearings and court cases related to the event. He resigned from the Capitol Police on Dec. 17, 2021, and plans to focus his campaign on issues such as infrastructure, mental health, crime, abortion, and gun control. His platform will primarily be centered on the defense of democracy.
