Forget Keys, Your Face Could Unlock And Start Your Next Car

Continental, a German multinational automotive parts manufacturer, plans to use facial recognition technology to unlock and start vehicles. The facial recognition technology could be installed inside and outside the vehicle and utilized in the infotainment system to facilitate digital payments at EV chargers. The technology, combined with hidden cameras revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), checks for facial features and validates real skin to prevent unauthorized access. It also allows for features like auto-start when the registered user approaches the vehicle and child access for unlocking but not starting the vehicle. Continental is also developing screens that integrate into a vehicle’s B-pillar, indicating vehicle status as the owner approaches.
