Chicago is grappling with housing and support for migrants, leading to an increase in individuals awaiting shelter in public buses. For some migrants, like 26-year-old Rafael Hernandez from Venezuela, this was their first experience with the sport, a moment that created a sense of community and acceptance. Over 30,000 migrants have arrived in Chicago since August 2022. Despite their struggles, such moments of joy and camaraderie provide a sliver of hope.
