Florida Republican Party ousts Christian Ziegler as chairman after rape allegation

The Republican Party of Florida has ousted its chairman, Christian Ziegler, amid allegations of rape and video voyeurism. The party’s new chairman is former vice chairman Evan Power, who is supported by most of the state’s high-profile Republicans, including Governor Ron DeSantis. Ziegler is accused of sexually assaulting a Sarasota woman he and his wife knew for 20 years, according to the Florida Center for Government Accountability. In addition to the rape accusation, Ziegler is being investigated for allegedly filming a sexual encounter without consent. His wife Bridget, co-founder of Moms for Liberty, has been criticized for her focus on conservative policies, including a controversial bill limiting discussions of gender identity and sexual preference in classrooms.
