Florida Republican Party censures chairman Christian Ziegler

Florida’s Republican Party has voted to strip Chairman Christian Ziegler of his authority and cut his salary to $1 due to a rape allegation against him. The action follows a criminal investigation by Sarasota police, launched in response to the allegation made in late November. Ziegler has insisted that the encounter was consensual and has refused to resign. An emergency meeting of party leaders passed a motion to censure Ziegler, stating that the party has lost confidence in him due to conduct rendering him unfit for office. A meeting has been scheduled on January 8 to decide whether to remove Ziegler from his office.
