Florida Court Weighs Ballot Measure to Allow Abortion ‘Before Viability’

The Florida Supreme Court is considering whether to allow a proposed measure protecting abortion rights to appear on the November ballot. The amendment would restrict government interference with abortions before a fetus is viable, typically at 24 weeks. Despite recently enacting bans on abortions after 15 and six weeks, the court seems reluctant to block the measure if its language is not deceptive. If the measure passes the court’s review, it will need over 60% voter support to pass. The court’s decision on the constitutionality of the measure’s language is expected by April 1.
