Flooding, Power Outages, Flight Delays: What to Know After Tuesday’s Storms

A series of powerful storms caused severe damage across the United States, leaving hundreds of thousands without power and causing multiple deaths. Heavy rainfall and strong winds resulted in extensive flooding, road closures, and damage to buildings, with further storms and cold Arctic air expected throughout the week. Over 100 water gauges in the eastern U.S. reported flood-stage levels, leading to evacuations and states of emergency in various regions. The extreme weather also caused disruption to school schedules and nationwide flight cancellations. Reports suggest over 20 million people were under tornado watch, with at least 10 tornadoes reportedly occurring across the South.
