Flood watch issued for metro Phoenix through Wednesday night

A flood watch warning is in effect in Phoenix’s Valley until Wednesday night due to an eastward-moving storm, with potential flooding in Maricopa, Gila, and Pinal counties. Officials are concerned about excessive runoff that may cause floods in rivers, creeks, streams, or urban areas with poor drainage. The rain is expected to impact the WM Phoenix Open, set to begin Thursday. There are also concerns about a large winter storm traveling through northern Arizona, causing traffic delays and prompting officials to advise drivers to hold off travel until the storm passes. Two roads near the Grand Canyon have been closed due to the winter storm.
