Five senators ask Biden to impose China travel ban after respiratory illness cases

Five Republican senators led by Marco Rubio have asked the Biden administration to ban travel between the U.S. and China amid a spike in respiratory illness cases. The senators, including Rubio, J.D. Vance, Rick Scott, Tommy Tuberville, and Mike Braun, requested the travel restriction until more information is available about the new illness. This came after the World Health Organization requested additional data from China regarding clusters of undiagnosed pneumonia in children. This push for travel restrictions has been met with opposition from a Biden administration official and the spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Washington, both stating the rise in cases appears to be a seasonal trend rather than a new outbreak.
