Fani Willis Defends Hiring of Outside Lawyer in Trump Georgia Case

Fani T. Willis, the Fulton County district attorney in Georgia, has addressed criticism and allegations of a romantic relationship with Nathan Wade, the special prosecutor she hired for the racketeering case against former President Donald Trump. Willis praised Wade’s credentials and challenged the accusations as a further difficulty in her role. Willis, the first black woman in her position, claims that she has been subjected to disproportionate scrutiny and personal danger, and suggests the criticisms related to Wade’s appointment are racially motivated. Trump and 18 allies were indicted last year on racketeering and other charges related to alleged efforts to overturn his 2020 election defeat in Georgia. Willis insists all of the special counsels she hired are “superstars”, and the objections to Wade are unjust.
