FAA orders grounding of certain Boeing 737 Max 9 planes after Alaska Airlines incident
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has ordered the grounding and immediate inspection of 171 Boeing 737 Max 9 aircrafts worldwide after a mid-flight emergency involving one of these planes operated by Alaska Airlines. This emergency involved a door plug blowing out mid-air, causing a hole in the aircraft. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is also investigating the incident, and although no severe injuries were reported, the incident led to a rapid cabin decompression. As a result, Alaska Airlines grounded its Boeing 737 Max 9 aircrafts and conducted fleet-wide inspections, while United Airlines has temporarily grounded all 79 of its Boeing 737 Max 9 planes to conduct FAA-required inspections. Boeing spokesperson Jessica Kowal expressed regret over the incident and underscored the company’s commitment to safety.
