Chesebro was central to Donald Trump’s efforts to subvert the Electoral College and overturn his defeat in 2020. He has also testified to a grand jury in Nevada and has been in contact with prosecutors in Arizona. Despite his cooperation with state investigators, there is no guarantee Chesebro will avoid criminal charges in the ongoing investigations. The Trump campaign targeted seven states with the scheme in 2020, with charges filed against fake electors in Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, and investigations underway in Arizona, New Mexico, and Wisconsin.
