ERCOT asks Texans to conserve electricity, expects ‘tight grid conditions’ due to freezing temperatures

The Electrical Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has requested Texans to conserve electricity from 6 to 10 a.m. on Monday due to expected tightening of electric grid conditions caused by freezing temperatures. ERCOT operates the electricity grid in Texas and noted that while this conservation appeal does not indicate emergency conditions at present, the continued freezing temperatures, high demand, and low wind are causing operating reserves to be low. The agency also anticipates similar conditions on Tuesday. ERCOT will remain vigilant and communicate further if conditions change. The agency has also asked all government agencies to reduce energy usage until at least 10 a.m. Monday.
