Elise Stefanik files complaint against judge who has ruled in Jan. 6 and Trump cases

Rep. Elise Stefanik, a New York Republican, has lodged a complaint alleging judicial misconduct against U.S. District Court Judge Beryl Howell over comments the judge made during an acceptance speech in November. The complaint relates to Howell’s remarks on the importance of facts and the impact of the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, which Stefanik described as “plainly inappropriate” and partisan. The remarks were made as Howell accepted an award at a Women’s White Collar Defense Association gala. Stefanik has previously lodged an ethics complaint against a judge involved in cases related to former President Donald Trump. Howell’s past decisions have included rulings against Jan. 6 defendants and rejecting arguments put forward by Trump’s lawyers.
