Edgewater’s Porkchop Restaurant, Adjoining Speakeasy Closed By City For Building Violations

Edgewater’s Porkchop restaurant and its sister business, Meet & Whiskey, were ordered closed by the city due to multiple building code violations, including many related to fire safety standards. The closures came after the businesses failed a building inspection and a public place of amusement annual inspection in December. The city does not have any construction permits for the businesses on record, and these violations, among others, have been referred to the city’s Law Department for prosecution. Other violations included a lack of fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and carbon monoxide detectors, non-operational exit signs, and open sewer drains. It remains unclear when or if the businesses will reopen.
