East Coast Storm Bringing Heavy Rains and Powerful Winds

A powerful storm is expected to hit the New York region and disrupt travel conditions due to heavy rainfall, strong winds, and potential major flooding. The National Weather Service warns of a low-pressure system in the Gulf of Mexico that could bring up to four inches of rain across New York City and northeastern New Jersey, with areas east of Interstate 95 in Washington and Baltimore also forecasted for heavy rain. The service has issued flood watches for these areas and warns that the Allegheny Mountains could receive up to 10 inches of snow. The storm, which has already soaked parts of South Carolina with over nine inches of rain, is set to intensify, producing gusts up to 60 mph and waves 12 to 16 feet high in the city. Officials advise residents to prepare for potential urban and coastal flooding, power outages, and beach erosion.
