Dozens displaced after cliffside collapses in Santa Barbara County

A seaside apartment building in Isla Vista, Santa Barbara County was evacuated after the cliffside collapsed due to record-breaking rainfall. Four apartment units were evacuated, displacing over 45 people. The building is situated on the 6700 block of Del Playa Drive, known for its ocean-view apartments but also raising safety concerns due to a steep drop beneath. Over the last 30 years, 13 people have died from falling off the cliffs in the area. The danger of cliff erosion has heightened due to recent storms, and it remains unclear when the evacuated residents will be allowed to return.
