Dozens dead in Iran after blasts strike Qassem Soleimani memorial – POLITICO

Over 100 people were killed and approximately 140 injured in two explosions near the tomb of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani in Kerman, Iran. The blasts, which occurred during a commemoration of Soleimani’s death four years earlier, are suspected to be a terrorist attack. Soleimani, a popular figure in Iran, led the country’s paramilitary Quds force before being assassinated by a U.S. drone strike in 2020. Local officials have pledged a “powerful and overwhelming” response to the bombings, and investigations are underway to confirm the cause.
