Five Ukrainian men have been detained by Moldovan border guards after illegally crossing the border near the village of Volintyr on February 8. The detainees, aged 32-38, reportedly paid intermediaries between $3,000 and $7,000 to assist in their escape. The men cited their unwillingness to mobilize and applied for asylum in Moldova. The border guards are continuing their investigation into the circumstances and the individuals who organized the illegal crossing. The future status of the detained Ukrainian citizens has not yet been disclosed.
