DNR investigating after cougar struck and killed on I-394

A cougar, hit and killed on an interstate highway in suburban Minneapolis, is believed to be the same animal seen in home security video earlier in the week. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) confirmed that cougars are rare in the area, with no sightings in Hennepin County for almost 20 years. The cougar was identified through an ear tag placed on it in northwestern Nebraska in 2021. The DNR has recorded over 80 verified cougar occurrences in Minnesota since tracking began in 2007, but sightings in densely populated urban areas like Minneapolis are highly unusual. They also issued a warning to residents to be cautious when outside.
