Disney appeals federal judge’s dismissal of its lawsuit against DeSantis

Disney has filed an appeal against a federal judge’s decision dismissing the company’s lawsuit against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and board members he appointed to manage a planning district Disney once operated. U.S. District Judge Allen Winsor ruled that Disney did not have the standing to bring the suit and had failed to show damages from specific actions taken by the new board. The origins of the suit lie in the controversy over a Florida bill limiting discussion of gender and sexuality in schools, which led to the dissolution of Disney’s Reedy Creek Improvement District. Disney’s lawsuit claimed this was retaliatory and violated the company’s First Amendment rights.
