Dallas is Shutting Down Sexually Oriented Businesses From 2 to 6 a.m.

The Dallas Police Department will begin enforcing an ordinance to close sexually oriented businesses between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., with violators facing the potential loss of their licenses, criminal charges, and penalties such as a year in prison or a fine of up to $4,000. This follows a court ruling in favor of the city of Dallas after several businesses challenged the ordinance. The city argues that late-night operations of these businesses are linked to increases in violent crime, citing evidence of a correlation between crime rates and the hours of operation. Some businesses, however, contend that this data is skewed because it includes crime within a 500-foot radius of the businesses. One affected business, New Fine Arts, expressed frustration over the enforcement and the need to hire extra security during the closed hours.
