D.A. Krasner announces formation of retail theft task force

The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office is creating a task force to tackle the rise in property crimes, including retail and house thefts. The Organized Retail & House Theft Task, announced by District Attorney Larry Krasner, will focus resources on these crimes in collaboration with the police department. The task force will emphasize on practices like “fencing”, prolific offenders, and addressing drug addiction as an underlying cause of theft. The District Attorney’s office’s policy on determining prosecution based on stolen goods’ value is also being revised. According to Philly Police, property crimes like retail theft and home theft saw a significant increase with retail theft cases going up by nearly 28% and overall property crimes increasing by 15%.
