D.A. Krasner announces formation of retail theft task force

The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office has established a task force to combat the increasing number of property crimes. The new task force will concentrate on retail theft, house theft, and practices such as “fencing,” where stolen goods are resold. District Attorney Larry Krasner has debunked claims that his office decides to prosecute theft cases based on the value of the stolen goods, stating that the primary job of the task force will be to revise these policies. Philly Police reports indicate a 28% increase in retail theft and a 15% rise in overall property crimes this year. The task force is led by Kimberly Esack and is financed by the Philadelphia City Council.
