Court rules Trump does not have immunity from prosecution

Former President Donald Trump has criticized a federal appeals court ruling that deemed him not immune from prosecution for alleged crimes during his presidency. Trump called the ruling “nation-destroying” and argued in a Truth Social post that a U.S. president must have full immunity to function properly. The appeal court judges found that if proven, Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election results were an “unprecedented assault on the structure of our government.” They also rejected Trump’s claim that his criminal indictment would have a chilling effect on future presidents, arguing that the public interest in holding a potentially criminal president accountable outweighs possible negative impacts on the presidency.
