Congress leaders agree on stopgap bill extending government funding to March : NPR
Congressional leaders are preparing a stopgap bill to prevent a partial shutdown of the federal government. If approved, the temporary measure would extend the operations of some federal agencies and the government until March 1 and March 8, respectively. The bill, which requires Democratic support to pass the closely divided House, is expected to be released Sunday. Despite pressure from hard-right members to renegotiate, House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer are sticking to their agreement. The bipartisan deal involves $1.66 trillion in spending for the next fiscal year, including $886 billion for defense.
