Cold War-era missile found in garage of Washington state home

Bellevue police found an inert, military-grade rocket in the garage of a deceased resident’s home in Washington. The Douglas AIR-2 Genie was designed to carry a 1.5 kt W25 nuclear warhead but was found without a warhead or rocket fuel, presenting no explosive hazard. The artifact, used by the U.S. and Canada during the Cold War, was offered as a donation to an Air Force museum in Dayton, Ohio. As it was inert and the military did not claim it, the police left it with a neighbor for restoration and future museum display.
