CMPD comments on Steele Creek marijuana arrest body cam video
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has released body camera footage relating to a controversial arrest in Charlotte’s Steele Creek area. On November 13, two officers arrested a couple who they believed were smoking marijuana. Charges were later dropped by the county District Attorney’s office following public outcry. The newly released footage provides more context to the incident, including a physical altercation between the officers and the couple. In response to the incident, the police department has enlisted community leaders to review its policies. Following the arrest, a gun was found in one of the individual’s bags.
