Closing arguments set to begin in Trump civil fraud case with the former president in court
The civil fraud case against Donald Trump and his company is set to begin its closing arguments on Thursday and could result in a fine of up to $370 million as well as bar Trump from New York’s real estate industry. Trump is expected to be present in the courtroom but will not be allowed to deliver remarks himself. The case, brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James, alleges that Trump and his company engaged in fraud by overstating the value of his assets and properties in financial documents over a span of 10+ years. Trump denies any wrongdoing and insists his properties were worth more than the financial statements indicated. If the court sides with the AG’s office, Trump and his top executives could be barred from participating in New York real estate, with the Trump sons facing a five-year ban.
