Claudine Gay Resigns as Harvard President After Plagiarism Charges
Harvard University President Claudine Gay has resigned, following allegations of plagiarism and an alleged insufficient response to antisemitism on campus. Gay, Harvard’s first Black president, served the shortest tenure of any Harvard president since the university’s founding in 1636. She will continue at the university as a tenured professor of government and African and African American studies. Provost and Chief Academic Officer Alan M. Garber will serve as interim president. Gay’s resignation comes amid a wave of resignations by university presidents, including the University of Pennsylvania’s president, following their perceived evasion of questions on antisemitism during a congressional hearing.
