Chicago weather forecast: Wind chill warnings in effect for brutal cold; frigid temps leave some EV owners stranded
Amid dangerously cold temperatures in Chicago, many electric vehicle owners, especially Tesla drivers, faced issues with charging stations not working and batteries draining faster due to the cold. The problems led to several Tesla vehicles getting stranded, causing long waits or requiring towing services. The cold also caused disruptions on the Chicago Transit Authority’s Orange Line due to a minor train derailment. The cities activated warming centers open daily and through the night due to the below-freezing temperatures. Some 242 flights were cancelled at O’Hare and 162 at Midway due to the adverse weather conditions.
