Chicago Tribune Reporters Go On Historic Strike With Support From The Onion Staff, Local Unions
Chicago Tribune reporters have gone on the first strike in the newspaper’s 177-year history, with hundreds of Tribune Publishing employees across the country demanding better contracts. The 24-hour walkout, involving about 250 employees from seven newsrooms, is a protest against hedge fund Alden Global Capital, which bought Tribune Publishing in 2021 and allegedly loaded it with $278 million of debt. The workers are seeking fair wages, better working conditions, and protection of their 401(k) match benefits. The public is requested to support the strike by not visiting any Tribune Publishing websites, opening any Tribune emails or news alerts, or engaging with any company tweets.
