Catholic priest killed by attack in Nebraska church residence | US crime

A Catholic priest, Stephen Gutgsell, died after being attacked during an invasion at St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fort Calhoun, Nebraska. Gutgsell was taken to an Omaha hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Police responded to a 911 call reporting an attempted break-in at the church, upon which they found Gutgsell injured and detained a suspected attacker. Gutgsell had pleaded guilty to theft by deception in 2007, for embezzling $127,000 from a church and was later reassigned to another church. Authorities do not believe his death is related to his criminal history.
