Carpentersville teen who drowned after driving into Vernon Hills pond was drunk, consumed cannabis before death, authorities say

A Carpentersville teen, Brissa Romero, drowned after driving into a Vernon Hills retention pond in December was found to be intoxicated and had consumed cannabis prior to her death, according to the Lake County coroner’s office. Her blood alcohol content was 0.16, twice the legal limit of 0.08, and she also had THC, found in cannabis, in her system. The official cause of death is drowning, with ethanol intoxication contributing to the accident. Romero was last seen on December 3rd. Her body was discovered in the pond on December 11th after her car was found in a retention basin.
