California atmospheric river-fueled storm brings rain and flooding to Los Angeles, San Diego and throughout state
California experienced strong winds due to an atmospheric river-fueled storm with wind gusts ranging from 20 to 50 mph across the state and valley areas respectively. The strongest winds were reported in high-elevation areas such as the Sierra Nevada with gusts surpassing 140 mph, reaching up to 162 mph on Ward Peak in Placer County. Other notable wind gusts include 102 mph at Pablo Point and Lagunitas Forest, 98 mph at Santa Clara and Loma Prieta, and 60 mph at Oakland International Airport. Comparable to Category 4 or 5 hurricanes, these strong winds subsided early Monday but gusty conditions were still expected, albeit at reduced intensity.
