Bystanders Stop Woman From Burning Home Where Martin Luther King Jr. Was Born

A 26-year-old woman attempted to set fire to the home where Martin Luther King Jr. was born, but was stopped by bystanders. Two visitors from Utah interrupted her while pouring gasoline on the house, and off-duty New York Police Department officers detained her until Atlanta police arrived. Zach Kempf, a filmmaker who was present during the incident, intervened and called 911. The woman is charged with attempted arson and interference with government property. The King Center confirmed the incident but assured that no damage had been done to the historic property, which is currently closed to the public for repairs and renovations.
