Brush fire prompts evacuation orders in Somis area of Ventura County

A wind-driven brush fire in Somis, California, escalated rapidly, encompassing more than 2,000 acres and causing evacuation orders for local residents. The South Fire began around 9:30 am near South Mountain’s ridgeline and quickly expanded from 4 to hundreds of acres within hours. As of 6 pm on the day, the Ventura County Fire Department reported the fire had grown to 2,444 acres with zero containment. The cause of the fire remains unclear. Firefighters are combating the fire from both air and ground, with evacuation orders issued for specific regions in the county.
