Both Houston MLK Day Parades canceled because of weather

The MLK Day Parades in Houston, scheduled for Monday, have been postponed due to weather concerns, according to the City of Houston. The announcement included the “Original” MLK Day Parade in downtown Houston, the MLK Grande Parade in Midtown, and the MLK Boulevard trail ride in southeast Houston. The decision to postpone was made in the interest of public safety by Houston Mayor John Whitmire, based on advice from Houston Police Chief Troy Finner, HFD Chief Sam Peña, and George Buenik, director of the Mayor’s Office of Homeland Security and Public Safety. As of now, the parades have not been rescheduled. The Houston area is under a Winter Weather Advisory until 6 p.m. Monday.
