Border standoff between Biden administration and Texas sparks frustration in Eagle Pass

Residents of Eagle Pass, Texas, are angry about the state government’s response to record numbers of migrants crossing the Rio Grande through Shelby Park. Governor Greg Abbott ordered the park closed and it has been taken over by Texas National Guard troops and other law enforcement officials. These actions, including installing barbed wire and shipping containers and placing buoys in the river, have not deterred migration but has alienated local residents. The park’s public golf course’s irrigation system has also been damaged. Meanwhile, a convoy of Donald Trump supporters is expected to arrive. Despite these actions and measures, border patrol apprehensions have decreased by more than 50% since December due to seasonal fluctuations and increased migrant route enforcement by Mexican authorities.
