Bill Hayes of ‘Days of Our Lives’ dies at 98

Longtime soap opera star Bill Hayes, known for his role as Doug Williams on “Days of Our Lives,” has passed away at the age of 98. Hayes originated the role of Doug Williams in 1970 and played the character until his death. He met his wife, Susan Seaforth Hayes, on the show, and they were known as one of the biggest soap opera supercouples. Hayes received two Daytime Emmy nominations in 1975 and 1976, and he and his wife were both awarded lifetime achievement awards from the Daytime Emmy Awards in 2018. Alongside his acting career, Hayes enjoyed success as a musician with his song “The Ballad of Davy Crockett” topping the Billboard charts in 1955.
