Biden to host Zelenskyy at White House amid stalled negotiations over Ukraine aid

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to address US senators, urging them to approve aid for Ukraine before the end of the year. A bipartisan group of senators is working to finalize an agreement tying an increase in Ukraine funding to improved border security measures. However, Republicans’ latest border proposal, which includes a ban on class-based “parole” and a revival of a form of Title 42 expulsion authorities, has been predominantly rejected by Democrats. The $106 billion supplemental spending bill under discussion in the Senate includes aid for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan as well as border funding. White House budget chief Shalanda Young has warned that failure to act on new funding could seriously weaken Ukraine’s position in conflict.
