Biden invites Zelenskyy to the White House amid a stepped-up push for Congress to approve more aid

President Joe Biden has invited Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the White House as the US administration pressures Congress to provide additional aid to Kyiv in its war with Russia. The meeting aims to underscore the United States’ unshakeable commitment to Ukraine and discuss Ukraine’s urgent needs and the importance of continued US support. Biden has requested a $110 billion wartime funding package for Ukraine and Israel from Congress, but the proposal is currently caught up in debates over US immigration policy and border security. The US has already allocated $111 billion to assist Ukraine, but funding for weapons and assistance will run out by the end of the year. The sale of nearly 14,000 rounds of tank ammunition to Israel and the need for congressional approval of foreign assistance were also discussed.
