Biden administration announces largest passenger rail investment since Amtrak creation
President Biden is announcing $8.2 billion funding for ten passenger rail projects across the US, marking the most significant federal investment in passenger rail since Amtrak’s creation in 1971. The fund includes $3 billion for the high-speed rail line connecting Las Vegas to Los Angeles, which is expected to be completed ahead of the 2028 Olympics. Other funded projects include a 220-mph train line between Los Angeles and San Francisco and rail expansion in various states. The Biden administration hopes that these projects will support union jobs and increase public backing for Biden’s economic policies.
