Atmospheric rivers set to dump rain across Western WA
Western Washington is under a flood watch due to a series of atmospheric rivers bringing heavy rain and snowfall. The largest of these atmospheric rivers will hit the area on Monday, possibly causing flooding in rivers, creeks, and poorly drained urban areas from Lewis County to the Canadian border. The Skokomish River is likely to flood Sunday night, followed by other rivers in the region on Monday and Tuesday. These atmospheric rivers, large swaths of water vapor from tropical areas of the Pacific Ocean, are expected to bring 6 to 9 inches of rain over the Cascades and 8 to 11 inches over the Olympics. The flood watch continues through Wednesday night, with the possibility of more rain and wind leading to localized power outages.
