The cooler weather in Houston is leading to an increase in feral hog sightings in and around the city. These hogs have become more destructive recently, emerging from fields, rooting through landscaping in search of food, and often being seen near high-traffic streets. According to Edward Dickey, owner of Texas Wild Hog Control, these animals likely migrated up Addicks Reservoir and used drainage ditches to explore the city before finding suitable spots to spend the winter. With declining temperatures and falling acorns, the hogs are stirred to move closer to populated areas. The animals are even accessing neighborhoods via channels and creek beds, using them as ‘highways’.
