As Northeast snowstorm ends, attention turns to an even more powerful and dangerous storm

The next winter storm is forecasted to impact the US, with impacts ranging from heavy snow and blizzard conditions to potential tornadoes and serious flooding. The storm is expected to affect the Southwest through to the Northeast, with over 10 million people under winter weather alerts. The storm is expected to rapidly strengthen into an exceptionally powerful January storm, bringing notable snowfall across more than half a dozen states, blizzard conditions, winds strong enough to cause damage and potential flooding. The storm is predicted to traverse over 1800 miles in 72 hours. The system is described as a fast-moving one, but it will cause significant impacts, and millions more will be impacted by the storm’s threats on its warm side.
