Arrest made in slaying of Texas high school cheerleader

A suspect identified as Rafael Govea Romero has been arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with the death of Texas high school cheerleader Lizabeth Medina. The 16-year-old victim’s body was found in her home’s bathtub by her mother. The arrest was made in Schulenburg, Texas, about 75 miles north of Edna, where Medina lived. Details surrounding Medina’s death have not been fully disclosed and an autopsy report is still pending. Prior to Romero’s arrest, the Edna Police Department had released photos of a person and vehicle of interest in the case.
